The module will start with Glaucon’s challenge in The Ring of Gyges. If one could always get away with crime, why be moral? The module will discuss Plato’s conception of the soul, education, truth, and justice.

Aristotle proposes a revisionist account of happiness as a virtuous activity in accordance with virtue. The module will discuss this active conception of happiness as well as virtue, akrasia (weakness of will), and friendship.

Some things are up to us, and some things aren’t. Real freedom starts from understanding this distinction. The module will be a slow reading and reflection of a Stoic practical handbook of how to be free.
